Edge An advantage over an opponent.
Even Money A bet that pays you back the same amount that you wagered, plus your
original wager; shown as a ratio of 1:1.
Expected Win Rate A percentage of the total amount of money wagered that you can expect to
win or lose over time.
Face Cards King, queen or jack of any suit of cards.
Family Pot - Poker When everyone at the table decides to enter a pot.
Fifth Street -
   Poker
In seven-card stud, the third round of betting is called fifth street because
players have five cards. In hold'em, fifth street is the fifth card on the board
and the final round of betting.
First Base - Blackjack
The position on the far left of the dealer is considered to be first base and is
the first position dealt with.
Fishing - Poker
A player who stays in a poker game longer than advisable generally is fishing
for the card or two that will make the hand a winner.
Flat Top - Slots Machines which have a fixed amount as jackpot.
Flop - Poker In a game of Texas Hold'em, the three community cards dealt face-up in the
center of the table.
Flush - Poker A hand consisting of five cards of one suit.
Fold - Poker When a player declines a bet and drops out of the hand.
Forced Bet - Poker A mandatory bet. In certain games, a player is required to bet after having
sat-in the game.
Foul - Pai Gow A hand is fouled when the two-card low hand is set higher than the five-
card high hand, or when the hands are set with the wrong number of cards.
A fouled hand is a losing hand.
Four Of A Kind - Poker Four cards of the same rank, also known as quads.
Fourth Street - Poker In seven-card stud, the second round of betting is called fourth street
because players have four cards. In hold'em, fourth street is the fourth card
on board and the third round of betting.
Freeroll - Poker This term applies to poker tournaments where the entry fee, the stakes, or
both the entry fee and stakes are waived. In some non-freeroll tournaments,
the house may guarantee a minimum prize pool.
Full House - Poker A hand consisting of a three of a kind and a pair.
Full Pay - Poker Generally the best win system offered for a particular game.

Hand Refers to the cards that you hold, or to everything that happens in a cardv game between shuffles of the deck.
Hard Hand - Blackjack Any hand that does not contain an ace valued at eleven.
Heads Up - Poker A game where only two players remain in contention for the pot.
Head to Head - Poker A game where only two players may participate.
High/Low - Poker A variation where the pot is split between the best hand and the worst hand.
The worst hand is comprised of the 5 lowest cards. Most poker rooms consider
5, 4, 3, 2, A as the lowest possible hand, despite it also being a straight.
High Poker Standard poker, as compared to low poker or lowball. In high poker, high
hands win.
High Roller A big bettor.
Hit - Blackjack To request and receive an additional card. This card is also called a hit.
Hold'em Also called Texas Hold'em. One of the most popular poker games. Each player
receives 2 down cards and can use 3, 4, or 5 of the community cards.
Hole Card In blackjack, the facedown card that the dealer gets. In stud and hold ‘em
pokers, the facedown cards dealt to each player.
House Edge The percentage of each bet that you make that the house takes. Winning
bets are paid off at less than the true odds to generate income for the house.
Inside Bet - Roulette A roulette bet placed on any number or small combination of numbers.
Inside Straight - Poker The term applied when a player has 4 of 5 cards needed for a straight with
the missing card being inside the sequence rather than at either end; e.g. a
player holding 3, 4, 5, 7 needs a 6 to complete the straight.
Insurance - Blackjack A side bet that's offered when the dealer's up card is an ace. If the dealer has
blackjack, the bet is paid 2-1. If the dealer does not, the insurance bet loses.
Jackpot Top amount available to be won.
Kicker - Poker The term for the card used to break ties between two of a kind or between
two pairs. In a draw poker game, an odd high card held that doesn't
contribute to a straight or a flush, usually an ace or a king.
Limit - Poker Any game that has a fixed limit on how much you can bet or raise in eachv round.
Loose/Tight Slots Refers to slot machines with a tendency to larger or smaller payoffs.
Low Poker Also called lowball, is poker in which the pot is awarded to the hand with the
lowest poker value.
