Marker
|
A check that can be written at the gaming tables by a player who has

Mini-Baccarat
|
The scaled-down version of baccarat, played with fewer players, dealers,
and formality but following the same rules as baccarat.
|
Monkey
|
Term for a card that is valued at or equal to ten.
|
Muck - Poker
|
As a noun, this refers to the pile of folded cards and discarded cards. As
a verb, at showdown time, the act of returning a losing hand to the dealer
face-down.

Multi-Table Tournament
- Poker
|
A tournament where players at more than one table compete, starting with
equal numbers of chips, until one player has won all the chips. Prize payouts
are a function of the number of entrants. Multi-table tournaments have a
posted start time, and require registration in advance.
|
Natural
|
In blackjack, a natural is a two-card hand of twenty-one points. In baccarat
a natural is a two-card total of eight, or nine.
|
No Limit - Poker
|
A variation of the betting rules in which each bet is unlimited up to the number
of chips a player has on the table.
|
Non-Negotiable - Slots
|
A promotional chip that cannot be cashed in.
|
Nut
|
Either the overhead costs of running a casino, or the fixed amount that a
gambler decides to win in a day.
|
Odds
|
Ratio of statistical probabilities or the amount a bet pays.
|
Omaha - Poker
|
A game in which each player receives 4 face-down cards and shares five
community cards. The winning hand must use exactly two down cards and
three community cards. This game also has a High/Low variant.

Omaha High/Low -
Poker
|
This game allows players to compete for a pot split between the highest and
the lowest hands using two down cards and three community cards. A player
may use different sets of cards to make up the best high and the best low
hands.
|
One-Roll Bets - Craps
|
Wagers that win or lose depending on the next roll of the dice.
|
Open - Poker
|
The player who bets first.
|
Outside Bets - Roulette
|
Roulette bets located on the outside part of the layout. They involve betting
12 to 18 numbers at one time.
|
Overcard - Poker
|
In stud, if you assume your opponent has a pair of sevens, then every card
above seven in your hand is considered an overcard.
|
Overlay
|
A good bet where you have an edge over the casino.
|
Pair - Poker
|
Also called two of a kind. This is a hand where the player's best hand is made
up of two cards of the same rank.

|
Palette - Baccarat
|
The flat spoon-like instrument used by dealers to scoop cards on the table.
|
Pass
|
To not bet, to fold.
|
Pat
|
In draw poker, a hand that does not need any more hands. In blackjack, an
unbusted hand worth at least 17 points.
|
Pay Cycle - Slots
|
A theoretical expression that reflects the number of plays required for the
machine to cycle through all possible winning and non-winning combinations.
|
Payline - Slots
|
The line on a slot machine window on which the symbols from each reel must
line up in order to win.
|
Payoff - Poker
|
Your payback; the return you see on a wager.
|
Payout Percentage
|
Also referred to as the payback percentage, the percent of each dollar played
in a video or slot machine that the machine is programmed to return to the
player. Payback percentage is 100 percent minus the house edge.

Payout Table
|
A posting somewhere on the front of a slot or video poker machine that tells
you what each winning hand will pay for the number of coins or credits played.
|
Pit Boss
|
The person who supervises all the games and casino personnel associated
with a pit during a particular work shift. Pit bosses are in place to watch for
cheating, settle disputes, and give comps to big bettors.

|
Using all the community cards in Hold'em as your best hand.
|
Pocket Cards - Poker
|
The term for the two down cards at the start of the hand.
|
Pot - Poker
|
The amount of money that accumulates in the middle of the table as each
player antes, bets, and raises. The pot goes to the winner of the hand.
|
Pot Limit - Poker
|
A variation on betting where each player may bet up to the current amount
in the pot.
|
Pressing
|
A player is pressing the bet when they let winnings ride by wagering them
along with the original bet.
|
Probability
|
A branch of mathematics that measures the likelihood that an event will
occur. Probabilities are expressed as numbers between 0 and 1. The
probability of an impossible event is 0, while an event that is certain tov
occur has a probability of 1.
|
Progressive
|
A machine whose potential jackpot increases with each coin that is played.
When the progressive jackpot finally hits, the machine resets to the default
starting amount.
|
Punter
|
A casino player.
|
Push
|
A tie hand between a dealer and a player; no money changes hands. A push
at blackjack occurs when both the player and the dealer have unbusted hands
with the same total points.
|
Quads - Poker
|
Four of a kind.
|
Qualifier - Poker
|
The minimum standard a hand must meet in order for it to be eligible for part
of the pot.
